Parents are always asking me what admissions officers look for in a well-rounded college application. This infographic gives you a visual of what’s important to them and where your student should put their focus.

I’m curious about community service as a factor. I don’t see any mention of community service in your beautiful visual. Do you factor community service into the leadership area or is it inconsequential and therefore not included? Thank you.
Janice,
I assume the community service is included in the extracurriculars. Community service is not inconsequential but colleges look for commitment to one service throughout high school. It is important, but by far grades and test scores, followed by the essay are the highest factors in the eyes of admissions officers.
Hi. Last year, I attended a parent session at my daughter’s university, and the person in charge of choosing students to attend the university clearly pointed out that community service was a very important factor in choosing applicants.
Applications with no community service were placed in the “maybe” stack then later reviewed if slots were still available.
Community service is indeed an important facet of the college application. Thanks for sharing Letty!
Is it possibile to get permission to print out the info graphic above?
We would love to have it on our school bulletin board.
